I believe if you sit still, tune out the other voices, and tune IN to your own... you know what your proverbial next step is.
If you're not actively taking it (and tuning in for your next assignment), it's likely bc you're afraid what may happen on the other side of it. (Ask me how I know 🙋🏻♀️)
Think about it: the next step is usually a very practical action that likely takes less than five minutes to complete.
Scary? SURE.
But so is the idea of sitting on it and letting it stew, temporarily valuing other people's opinions of you more than you value your own, right? 😯
The comfort zone is a myth.
Sitting still in your ish is UNCOMFORTABLE AF.
Moving out of it can be too.
Which discomfort do you prefer right now? Growth or stagnation?
To be clear, a cozy plateau is nice every now and then. It gives us a chance to catch our breath on the metaphorical staircase of life, and that is both valuable and necessary.
But it's not where we're meant to stay forever.
In this message I challenge you to give yourself the gift of (what I call) FUNCOMFORTABLE action, so you at least have the opportunity to experience what you think you want to experience.
And to trust yourself to deal with whatever happens on the other side of it.
(Spoiler: you may realize that's not truly what you want, which is a huge win! Saves you from daydreaming about it for years to come. I share my experience with this in the audio.)
So get honest.
What's your next step, and what's keeping you from taking it? Is it a temporary lack of knowledge or a temporary lack of courage?
Because both are fixable. You're more resourceful than you realize. And if you'd like support from someone who knows this path well (been there, done that, made the excuses and the t-shirts), I'd love to help.
Doors are closing soon to the 2022 Trimester of Awesome, my all new 12-week group experience. Our first live workshop is one week from today. I share more details in the podcast (and the last email I sent your way), but if you're at all curious about how I could help - click here to apply today.
Whether TOA is a fit for you or not, I'd love to help you identify (+ follow through on) whatever that next step is for you.

Hi! 👋 I'm Nikki.
...Elledge Brown.
Creator of the On Her Terms® universe.
Pro word nerd and mom of three.
I'm a creative advisor, coach, and strategist for entrepreneurial women who love their work, their families, and their alone time.
I'm also a military spouse and former park ranger and college professor with a penchant for almost excessive verbal processing. (You've prob picked up on that by now.)
After over a decade in business and momming, moving from my fave Hawaiian island to my fave Texas town, reckoning with and recovering from my own brand of #onherterms burnout, I've been deep in introspection + experimentation over here:
Got it. Not a dress rehearsal. What do I really want my life to look like? What do I want it to feel like? In each area of life, what are my terms for this season? When I get really honest and ditch the should dos and the have tos…what's left? What’s true? NOW WHAT?
This podcast is a space to track that journey, to share my field notes, to anchor in the stories and lessons my clients and I are learning along the way.
Join me here to refresh your OWN definitions of what matters most to you. Motherhood, ambition, fulfillment, creativity, relationships, inspiration, REST, success, community, and about a squillion other words and concepts that deserve thoughtful consideration.
